Bernal Heights man charged with murdering wife

Ying Hua Wu, 74, of Bernal Heights was charged in court Thursday with murdering his wife Dec. 9. Wu also faces charges of assaulting three Fire Department medics with a knife when they were called to the couple’s home in the 200 block of Justin Drive. Hao Mei Wu, 72, was found on the floor of the home, unconscious and not breathing.

Wu’s wife is believed to have been strangled, prosecutors said, although a motive has not been released. Police said Wu stabbed himself in the neck before advancing on the medics, but was disarmed and hospitalized.
