Avalos to join city-sponsored 'walking school bus'

Supervisor John Avalos will be among parents and their kids opting to walk to school Wednesday.

Let’s hope for nice weather — it's International Walk to School Day.

Avalos and the families setting out on foot will meet a few blocks away from Longfellow Elementary School around 8:40 a.m.

Drivers won’t get off easy. Parents with the “walking school bus” will be handing out some traffic safety tips to those who do get behind the wheel.

The event is sponsored by the Shape Up Coalition and the Department of Public Health.
