Armed crooks burn victim in Alta Plaza Park robbery

Three pot-smoking teenagers endured quite a comedown on the tennis courts of a Pacific Heights park Tuesday after shotgun-“toking” robbers asked for a hit, police said.

The victims, all 18-year-old men, were burning one down in the north court at Alta Plaza Park, near Steiner and Jackson streets, when two men showed up about 9:20 p.m., police Sgt. Michael Andraychak said Wednesday. The suspects, who were in their late teens to early 20s, asked the men if they could borrow a lighter and smoke weed with them, Andraychak said.

The buzz kill came when one of the victims heard the pumping of what he called a shotgun as he handed over a lighter, Andraychak said.

Weed, cellphones, wallets and cash were taken after the armed suspect had the victims lay on the ground. One thug even stuck his lit cigarette into one of the victim’s hands during the robbery, Andraychak said. Talk about being burned.

The victim declined medical attention and no one else was injured, police said.

Such a robbery “doesn’t happen often, especially in that neighborhood,” Andraychak said.
There were no arrests as of Wednesday.
