12-year-old robbed in Portola

A 12-year-old boy was robbed of a cellphone and cash in the Portola neighborhood Tuesday afternoon, police said.

The boy said he was walking a few blocks from his home in the area of Holyoke and Woolsey streets just after 4 p.m. when he encountered a man in his 20s standing next to a red sedan.

“As he got closer to the suspect, the suspect demanded his wallet and cellphone,” Officer Tracy Turner said Wednesday.

The boy “was shocked and froze,” police said, and the suspect took advantage. He went through the 12-year-old's pockets and made off with his phone, cash and also a Clipper card, Turner said.

The thug then hopped in a sedan containing three more male suspects and fled.

There has been no arrest.
