VMware up more than 4.6 percent

Palo Alto’s VMware Inc. (VMW) climbed more than 4.6 percent by the close of the markets Monday, the biggest move seen among local stocks tracked by the Examiner.

Redwood City’s Electronic Arts Inc. (ERTS) also rose more than 3.3 percent, while at the other end of the scale, Yahoo Inc. (YHOO) fell more than 2.5 percent and Intuitive Surgical Inc. (ISRG) fell more than 1.7 percent.

The markets were up overall, with the Dow Jones up more than 0.7 percent, the Nasdaq up more than 0.4 percent and the S&P 500 up more than 0.7 percent.

Local companies in the news included PG&E Corp’s (PCG) San Francisco-based Pacific Gas & Electric Co. The U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear an appeal of a ruling that found municipalities could not be ordered to pay refunds to the utility.
