Oracle offers to buy BEA Systems

Redwood City’s Oracle Corp. (ORCL) has offered to buy San Jose-based BEA Systems Inc. (BEAS) for $17 per share in cash.

The offer represents a 25 percent premium over Thursday’s closing price for BEA of $13.62, according to Oracle.

BEA, which develops software development software, had a net income $142.7 million in 2006.
