Newsom pens letter to Obama

On the topic of immigration reform, Mayor Gavin Newsom fired off a letter to President Barack Obama asking him to reform immigration now.

The letter, which was sent yesterday, noted that Arizona’s attempt to take on immigration reform on its own has proven to be misguided at the very least.

Newsom pointed out that only the federal government can enact a meaningful and compassionate reform.

“As Mayor of San Francisco, a city where a third of its residents were born in other countries, I know firsthand how vital immigrants are to our economy, our culture and our social fabric,” Newsom said in the letter.
