Gibbs: I love my job!

“I don't mean this to be sarcastic,” Gibbs said.    (ap photo)

Robert Gibbs! Here we are again. Are you going to leave us and go run the Democratic National Committee? Who started this pernicious rumor? A sampling of the press secretary's non-denial denials:

I have not had any discussions with anybody here about it.

I haven't had any conversations about it.

I'm happy doing what I'm doing.

I love my job.

I'm not going to talk about my job.

I have not been involved in any conversations.

I was in Alabama. I haven't talked to anybody there about it. I haven't talked to anybody in Virginia about it.

I haven't had any conversations about the future.

I don't intend to have any conversations about the future in the next few weeks.

Hmm. Persuasive? The coverage has been interesting (The Nation: Forget Gibbs, bring back Dean! The Telegraph's hawt Toby Harnden: Do the Dems Want to Commit Political Suicide? ).

It's true to the nature of the White House press corps that when one high profile guy splits, we want them all to go so we can keep covering that story! Make the exodus Biblical! Allow us free use of “Titanic” references and “rat” cliches!

Whatevs. There probably was some discussion somewhere of Gibbs going to the DNC. But why would anyone want that horrible job when they can be right-hand to the president? Once people get inside the White House and spend their days thisclose to power, it's tough to leave (unless it's for rilly big money)
