Eat your peas and cover the moon in yogurt: Top 5 crazy quotes from the debt ceiling debate

#5) “So let’s be honest.  I need a dance partner here — and the floor is empty.” – President Barack Obama

There's only one thing to do Mr. President, when you find yourself alone on the dance floor.

#4) “This is not leadership. This is almost like dictatorship. I know they want to force the outcome that … their extremists would like to impose. But they are getting ready to spark panic and chaos, and they seem to be OK with that.” – DNC chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz

Actually a dictatorship is when one ruler assumes absolute power. Like this guy.

Tea Party Republicans are members of Congress, a democratic body elected by the people.

#3) “It's not going to get easier, it's going to get harder. So, we might as well do it now. Pull off the band-aid. Eat our peas.” – President Obama

Pulling off the band-aid kind of makes sense as metaphor for dealing with our national debt, but eating our peas? Even the White House press corps chuckled at this one. Maybe the President was forced to eat a lot of peas when he was a kid, or perhaps he read this book to his kids a lot when they were younger.

#2)  “Let's Pass a Bill To Cover Moon With Yogurt” – Paul Ryan

Paul Ryan used this example to ridicule his congressional colleagues' definition of a spending cut. It's an interesting concept, but where did he conjure up this idea?

#1) “What we’re trying to do is save the world from the Republican budget,” she said. “We’re trying to save life on this planet as we know it today.” – Nancy Pelosi

Always the drama queen,  Pelosi is fond of framing congressional debate in dire terms. Had Pelosi said this on camera, this would be perfect material for an auto-tuned video mashup with this song by R.E.M.
