Business briefs: McDonald’s & Boston Market

A spokesman for private equity firm Sun Capital Partners said Monday it had agreed to buy the meat-and-potatoes Boston Market restaurant chain from its parent, McDonald’s Corp. (MCD). Boston Market, originally called Boston Chicken, has 630 restaurants in 28 states. McDonald’s acquired it in 2000 for $173.5 million as part of an initiative to diversify its business.

Elie Robert de Rothschild

The French baron, who helped that nation’s renowned Rothschild winemaking and banking dynasty recover from World War II, died Monday of a heart attack while vacationing at his Austrian hunting lodge. He was 90. He held a 25 percent stake in the Rothschild banking empire and oversaw the conversion of the former Paris-Lyon-Marseille railway into a travel company.
