Business briefs: Business card industry booming

Business cards are becoming more popular, fueling a $1.2 billion industry. To meet growing demand, Staples Inc. (SPLS) this month unveiled its “Business Cards in Minutes” service, allowing cards to be designed and delivered in as little as 30 minutes. Many customers order “social” and “dating” cards that include information such as MySpace pages and email addresses.

The California plaintiff’s lawyer has told his partners that he would resign from his San Diego firm, Lerach Coughlin, this week to resolve a long-running criminal investigation into his tactics and business practices. Among the most successful class-action lawyers in a generation, Lerach and his team secured $7.3 billion for Enron investors.
