Shoppers unite for Fashion's Night Out

Fashion’s Night Out: Fine retailers — including Macy’s, Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman-Marcus and Gump’s — participated in the international event, which was established in 2009 to boost the fashion industry during the recession. Giveaways and celebrity appearances were part of the fun across The City on Thursday.

SF Opera debuts timely commission

‘Heart of a Soldier’ premiere: Saturday at the War Memorial Opera House, patrons, performers and creators celebrated the opening of the new work by Christopher Theofanidis and Donna Di Novelli. The 9/11-themed production tells the story of Vietnam veteran Rick Rescorla, who died at the World Trade Center after helping 2,700 people to safety.

Boutique opens on Fillmore

Curve opening: VIPs on Thursday attended a private party to open the new 2360 Fillmore St. location of Curve, a high-end boutique with stores in Los Angeles, Miami and New York.

Weill gift supports music center

Green Music Center party: Last week in Sonoma, $12 million donors Joan and Sanford I. “Sandy” Weill hosted a gathering in honor of plans for the Green Music Center, a concert hall at Sonoma State University slated for opening in fall 2012.

On Sunday, California bore the brunt of what meteorologists referred to as a bomb cyclone and an atmospheric river, a convergence of storms that brought more than half a foot of rain to parts of the Bay Area, along with high winds, concerns about flash floods and the potential for heavy snow in the Sierra Nevada.
