Scoop: Twins on the way for Amal, George Clooney

The swirling baby bump rumors are no more: George Clooney and his wife, Amal, officially are expecting twins — a boy and a girl.

Lucky Julie Chen of TV’s “The Talk” got the scoop first. On her show Thursday, she said, “Beyoncé is not the only superstar expecting twins. Congratulations are in order for George and Amal Clooney. ‘The Talk’ has confirmed that the 55-year-old superstar and his highly accomplished 39-year-old attorney wife are expecting twins.”

People went on to report, from an unnamed source, “Amal has let everyone in both families know quietly. They’re all very happy.”

The Clooneys’ pal Matt Damon publicly shared how thrilled he is about the news, mentioning that, when George told him about it in the fall, he advised the couple not to tell more people until they were in the 12-week “safe zone.”

George has come a long way since his famed bachelor days.

As recently as 2015, he told interviewer Charlie Rose he hadn’t really considered fatherhood, saying, “I mean, I’ve thought about it, I suppose, but it hasn’t been high on my list. I’ve been asked it a lot lately, because I’ve gotten married and I am doing a movie with kids in it.”

When he was named People’s Sexiest Man Alive for the second time in 2006, he — quite reasonably — said, “I think it’s the most responsible thing you can do, to have kids. It’s not something to be taken lightly.”

The San Francisco Shakespeare Festival gets its 35th anniversary celebration under way this weekend with Davern Wright (directed by Stephen Muterspaugh) performing Hamlet’s “O that this too too solid flesh would melt” speech at 11 a.m. Saturday at the boardwalk at Crissy Field.

The show kicks off “35 Famous Speeches in 35 Famous Places,” an enticing series of free performances of the Bard’s most famous material presented in Bay Area landmarks through August. On Feb. 16, the first four speeches will be repeated at a 6 p.m. bash at the Presidio Officers Club, featuring Wright, fellow actors Sarah Shoshana David, Carl Holvick and Radhika Rao, and artistic director Rebecca J. Ennals.

Singer Sir Tom Jones is dating Elvis Presley’s ex-wife Priscilla. … Rumors indicate that “American Idol,” TV’s biggest recent hit (which was canceled due to a ratings drop) may come back on the air — something the show’s creator Simon Fuller predicted.
