Scoop: Taylor Swift calls gender scholar to testify in groping suit

Taylor Swift is gearing up for trial.

The pop star recently lined up Lorraine Bayard de Volo, a women and gender studies professor at the University of Colorado Boulder, to analyze David Mueller’s behavior as consistent with perpetrator of sexual assault, People reports.

Mueller is the guy who sued her in September 2015 after he lost his job as a radio host at a Colorado station following her claim that he groped her butt under her skirt during a 2013 meet-and-greet at a Denver concert.

Swift has counter-sued Mueller, stating in legal documents that the move “will serve as an example to other women who may resist publicly reliving similar outrageous and humiliating acts.”

The case is set to go to trial Aug. 7.

R.I.P POWERS BOOTHE

Character actor Powers Boothe — best known for portraying bad guys in “Sin City,” “Tombstone,” “Deadwood” and “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” died Sunday morning of natural causes at his home in Los Angeles. He was 68.

He also played Jim Jones in a 1980 TV miniseries about the Peoples Temple’s mass suicide in 1978.

Beau Bridges on social media called him “a dear friend, great actor, devoted father & husband.”

Boothe did sometimes play positive characters — Philip Marlowe in a short-lived HBO show about the Raymond Chandler detective, for one — but in a 2012 interview he said, “The heavies are more fun. And I think they’re more interesting.”

CEREAL STORIES

Folks charmed by the marshmallows in Lucky Charms may want to win one of the 10,000 “marshmallow only” boxes being offered via an in-store promotion and online sweepstakes. But don’t mention it to esteemed (and funny) Michael Ruhlman, who’ll be The City at 6:30 p.m. today, May 16, promoting “Grocery: The Buying and Selling of Food in America” at Omnivore Books on Food. The excellent volume by the prolific writer (who’s co-authored books with Michael Symon and Thomas Keller) has some pretty convincing material about the evil (nutrition-void!) sugary cereals that fill the center aisle.

QUICK TAKES

StubHub reports that U2’s The Joshua Tree Tour (coming to Levi’s Stadium on May 17) is the summer’s top tour, out-selling Ed Sheeran by 65 percent, to date. To accommodate the local crowd, the Capitol Corridor train is offering added post-show service from the nearby Santa Clara/Great America Station.
