In an interview in Billboard, the usually hilarious Margaret Cho shared some information about her past, and it’s not funny.
The beloved San Francisco-born comic told the magazine about being sexually abused, raped and bullied as a child and teen.
Between ages of 5 and 12, Cho was sexually molested by a close family friend. “I had a very long-term relationship with this abuser, which is a horrible thing to say,” she told Billboard. “I didn’t even understand it was abuse, because I was too young to know. I endured it so many times, especially because I was alone a lot.” Even worse — her family knew about it, and didn’t do anything about it.
In high school, she confided that she had been raped, only to be bullied and told, “You are disgusting, and you deserve to be raped.” To heal, she turned to comedy and songwriting, even penning song called “I Want to Kill My Rapist.”
“I think Bill Cosby and Woody Allen and all these men are so disgusting. It’s gross. This song I made is a rejection of all that,’ she said.
On a lighter note, Cho kicked butt on her guest appearance on TV’s “Fashion Police” this week, besting fellow commentators Melissa Rivers, Giuliana Rancic, Brad Goreski and NeNe Leakes and poking fun at Rancic’s newsmaking gaffe about Zendaya Coleman’s dreadlocks at the Oscars earlier this year.
