We’ve got to hand it to George and Amal Clooney for having fun with their birth announcement.
“This morning we welcomed Ella and Alexander Clooney into our lives,” the Clooneys said in a statement issued Tuesday. “Ella, Alexander and Amal are all healthy, happy and doing fine.”
The babies — first children for both mom and dad — were born in London Tuesday morning, according to George’s publicist Stan Rosenfield, who went on to joke: “George is sedated and should recover in a few days.”
George, 56, married Amal, 39, a lawyer, in September 2014 in Venice.
Amal Clooney’s parents said they were delighted.
“They are in great health, all is perfect,” Amal’s father Ramzi Alamuddin, who lives in Beirut, told AFP news agency, BBC News reported.
Amal’s mother Baria, who was in hospital with her daughter, said: “We are over the moon. It was a beautiful delivery. The babies are beautiful and are doing well.”
The pregnancy news broke in February on the TV show “The Talk,” when host Julie Chen revealed that Jay Z and Beyoncé weren’t the only ones expecting twins.
Although George has gone on record saying he didn’t want kids, he’s apparently been readying for the newborns’ arrival.
“I know swaddling,” he told “Extra” in March, “I know what I’m in for.”
Page Six reports that Amal has worked throughout her pregnancy, using her platform to bring attention to important issues. In March, she urged the UN to prosecute ISIS for genocide.
