Scoop: 50 Cent says high-rolling image is fake

Rapper 50 Cent, ranked by Forbes as one of hip-hop’s five richest artists, downplayed his wealth Tuesday as he testified in court about his finances, business deals and the media attention surrounding his recent bankruptcy filing.

The rapper, aka Curtis Jackson III, appeared in New York state Supreme Court in Manhattan in a proceeding to decide possible additional punitive damages in an invasion-of-privacy lawsuit. A jury has already ordered him to pay $5 million in damages to a woman who said he didn’t have her permission when he released a sex tape she made with a boyfriend.

Questioned by an attorney for the woman, Lastonia Leviston, the 50 Cent denied owning many luxury items  he likes to show off — including expensive cars and flashy jewelry — saying he rents, borrows and leases instead.

“It’s a borrowed piece of jewelry from the jeweler,” he told Leviston’s lawyer when asked about a photo of a 65-karat ring he posted on Instagram.

Leviston sued the rapper after the 13-minute video appeared online showing 50 Cent crudely narrating and taunting his rival Rick Ross, who was not in the video but has a daughter with Leviston. The rapper has said Leviston’s then-boyfriend gave him the 2008 tape and that, while he didn’t actually post it online, the boyfriend said she didn’t mind if he did.

“I’m sorry if you feel like I hurt you,” he told Leviston in court.

Days after the jury ordered 50 Cent to pay $5 million, he filed for personal bankruptcy protection.

TEAM APOLOGIZES FOR FELDMAN

A minor-league baseball team in Pennsylvania has apologized for inflicting terrible trauma on its fans: a musical performance by Corey Feldman.

The State College Spikes, an affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals, told the local Centre Daily Times that Feldman was expected to do a meet-and-greet with fans. Instead, the “Lost Boys” star donned a sequined Michael Jackson getup and began caterwauling and gyrating for a scattered crowd before becoming hopelessly entangled in onstage cables.

The team apologized on its Facebook page for “the appearance being so far below expectations.”
