New Mediterranean Grill in Belmont

The former Belmont Gyro House has a new owner and a new name: Market 1397 Mediterranean Grill. While the behind-the-scenes activity has changed, much of the menu remains the same. Pita or lavash gyro wraps filled with falafel, chicken, lamb or beef (with fries on the side) are served, as well as schwarma kebab plates accompanied by salad and hummus (with pita bread for dipping). Greek salad and tabouleh are among the light choices to start. Almost everything is made in house, including the baklava for dessert. Market 1397’s interior is gray and black; the rear patio is a prime seating area, perfect for pleasant outdoor summer dining. Inside, there are just a couple of two-person tables, so seating is at a premium during peak mealtimes.

The national burgers-and-fries chain Five Guys is now in Foster City’s The Marketplace shopping plaza. Burgers, cheeseburgers and bacon cheeseburgers come in two sizes, and    dozens of topping choices range from grilled mushrooms to A1 Steak Sauce and jalapeno peppers. The menu also features a BLT, grilled cheese and veggie sandwich (not a veggie burger).

Osteria Coppa is offering al fresco dining on its beautiful Coppa Cabana patio, as well as a Summer Wine Lover Dinner series on the last Thursday of each summer month. A $90 meal pairs a four-course menu from chef Daniel Padilla with exceptional wines. On June 25, “A Night in Tuscany” showcases offerings from Piccini Family Wines, a legendary Tuscan estate founded in the late 1800s.

Father’s Day
Among the Peninsula restaurants serving special menus for celebrating with Dad are Quattro at the Four Seasons Hotel Silicon Valley at East Palo Alto, which offers a three-course, $75-prix-fixe lunch from chef Marco Fossati featuring watermelon and strawberry gazpacho, black angus prime rib with a smoked tobacco whiskey barbecue sauce and, for dessert, “four treats in a cigar box.” Tannourine in San Mateo presents a $30-per-person Lebanese and Mediterranean menu complete with hot and cold mezes, entree choices and desserts. Burlingame’s 37 North offers an all-you-can-eat-and-drink $25 beer and barbecue lunch with steaks, burgers, chicken, sausages, potato salad and watermelon wedges from noon to 5 p.m. on the restaurant’s outdoor patio.
