Actor Anthony Rapp came forward to detail allegations of an unwanted sexual advance fellow actor Kevin Spacey made toward him in 1986, when Rapp was a 14-year-old and Spacey was 26.
In an interview with Buzzfeed News published Sunday, Rapp says Spacey invited him over to his apartment for a party. Rapp was alone in a bedroom watching television when a drunken Spacey picked him up, placed him on the bed and climbed on top of him.
“I was aware that he was trying to get with me sexually,” Rapp said, adding that after a short while he managed to “squirm” away and went home.
Rapp never approached Spacey about what happened, according to Buzzfeed. He did eventually talk to a lawyer about it, who saw “no case worth pursing.”
After the story was published, Spacey realease a statement on Twitter apologizing to Rapp and coming out as a gay man.
“I honestly do not remember the encounter, it would have been over 30 years ago. But if I did behave as he describes, I owe him the sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behavior, and I a sorry for the feelings he describes having carried with him all these years.”
In a statement to EW after the story went live, Rapp said, “I came forward with my story, standing on the shoulders of the many courageous women and men who have been speaking out, to shine a light and hopefully make a difference, as they have done for me. Everything I wanted to say about my experience is in that article, and I have no further comment about it at this time.”
San Jose-bred Michelle Breyer, the Austin, Texas co-founder of NaturallyCurly (the groundbreaking website for people with textured hair) was at MaduSalon in The City on Sunday, signing copies of her comprehensive new book “The Curl Revolution: Inspiring Stories and Practical Advice from the NaturallyCurly Community.”
Vivacious salon owner Marie France Cesar, originally from Haiti, said her business (the only local salon solely devoted to curly hair, she believes), is booming, thanks to patrons learning how to moisturize, rather than shampoo, their bounty.
With about 70 percent of the population having textured hair, equally enthusiastic stylist Devon Ramirez (who doesn’t own a flat iron!) was clearly pleased to be helping many (including her 58-year-old mom) move from resisting to embracing curls.
For Breyer, the event’s most funny and ironic moment was when a straight-haired lady came in and asked for a perm.
