X is already starting to feel X-mas cheer

Is it really that time again? Time for feigned festive holiday cheer? Indeed, it is.

And a sure sign is the official notice from our fave proto-punkers X that — as is their usual Yuletide custom — they’ve once again booked two “X-Mas Rock N Roll Festival” nights at San Francisco’s Slim’s this time on Dec. 30 and 31.

And if you’ve never caught one of these kinetic, must-see events, you really owe it to yourself to this original “Los Angeles” lineup, still on irrepressible fire after all these years. No joke — it’s the greatest way we can think of to close one musical year and crack open the next.

But X isn’t waiting to Christmas to get started.

This month and next, they’ll be pinballing elsewhere around the country on a tour celebrating the 31st anniversary of “Los Angeles,” and November will find them hopping through South America as special guests of Pearl Jam.

And separately, all four members are also working solo projects: John Doe his new “Keeper” disc; Exene Cervenka her album “The Excitement Of Maybe”; DJ Bonebrake with his new group The Stripminers with The Donnas’ Brett Anderson and The Radishes’ Paul Stinson; And Billy Zoom (the happiest guitarist in rock next to Dave Grohl) with his own custom amp shop and studio.

Keep up with them at www.xtheband.com. And Merry X-mas, everyone!
