Stern Grove Festival announces 71st season

Once again, Stern Grove presents an exciting lineup of free summer concerts. This year’s performances begin June 15 and continue through Aug. 17.

Shows are at 2 p.m. every Sunday at Sigmund Stern Grove, 19th Avenue and Sloat Boulevard, San Francisco. For details, visit www.sterngrove.org.

June 15 — Blues icon Booker T. Jones and “The Great Lady of Soul” Bettye Lavette

June 22Nigerian Afrobeat star Seun Kuti and Egypt 80 with club favorite Sila and the Afrofunk Experience

June 29San Francisco Symphony conducted by James Gaffigan

July 6 New Orleans legend Allen Toussaint and the next generation sound of Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue

July 13 — French-Algerian rock-rebel Rachid Taha and Arabic grooves with MC Rai

July 20Alonzo King’s Lines Ballet, featuring Pharoah Sanders

July 27 — Voices of Latin Rock, with members of Santana and Malo; and Sambadá

Aug. 3 — Electro-tango group Bajofondo and New York Latin electronica group Si*Sé

Aug. 10 — One Hawai’i, featuring Na Leo, Ernie Cruz, Kaukahi, One Right Turn

Special programs are scheduled for children ages 4-13, running from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Kids Days with San Francisco Taiko Dojo are June 24-26; with Cheryl Burke Dance and San Francisco Ballet Center for Dance Education, July 15-17; and with Halau ‘o Keikiali’iare, Aug. 5-7.
