Slot tournaments cranking up at Twin Pine Casino

Twin Pine Casino, which has opened a 12-slot-machine tournament area, will be starting a new series of competitions Sundays and Tuesdays beginning Sept. 12.

The tourneys will have a daily cash prize of $250, said Tim McGlynn, Twin Pine’s new marketing director, and participants can be players-club members or pay a $5 tournament fee.

Twin Pine has a selection of activities with promotional drawings and giveaways every day of the week, such as men’s and women’s days, senior days and poker tournaments. In addition, there is free entertainment in the Grapevine Lounge.

Unlike many casinos, for some of its promotions, Twin Pine doesn’t compel players to join its players club — though it’s always wise to do so. Players club members can get free gifts and accrue points toward food discounts and gambling credits.

With the fall season, McGlynn said the focus is on football in September and October, with better-refined e-mail and text blasts with special offers to customers.

Twin Pine will start a rich football promotion Sept. 6 that includes drawings Mondays and Wednesdays.

First opened in 1994, Twin Pine last year opened a $42.5 million hotel and casino with a wine country theme — including its own wine tasting room that’s part of the gift shop.

The September wine of the month is Lake County’s Brassfield Estate Winery. The wine tasting is from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 17 and the winemaker dinner is at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 21. Dinner cost is $65 for Harvest Club members; $75 for nonmembers. Advance reservations are a must.

The annual Harvest Grape Stomp will be at noon Sept. 25. There’s wine, music, a barbecue lunch, grape stomp and Lucy Look-a-Like contest and a silent auction. A silent auction of items donated by local merchants will benefit “Operation Tango Mike” in Kelseyville, a nonprofit organization that sends local care packages and other support materials to U.S. troops stationed overseas.

A special wine tasting and women’s night happens from 7 to 9 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month — reservations are required and can be made by calling (707) 987-1255.

Traveling to Middletown is about a two-hour, 90-mile trip from San Francisco. Head for Napa, stay on state Highway 29 north through Calistoga and over Mount St. Helena to Middletown, which is at the southern end of Clear Lake.
