Scoop: Is Britney seeing paparazzo ex again?

Britney Spears appears to be doing great. An onlooker who saw her at the gym recently, “working out super hard with weights and doing abs with her trainer,” told Page Six she was “back in great shape.” But a bad influence from the pop star's past could be popping up to sabotage her progress.

While Britney enjoyed a relaxing weekend in Las Vegas before the MTV Video Music Awards, a shady figure from her past was also in town: paparazzo Adnan Ghalib, her beau earlier this year while she struggled with debilitating personal problems. (As you may recall, his sudden appearance in her life back then aroused suspicion he was using her to sell photos.)

“I don't think it was a coincidence that he was there” at the same time as Britney, a source in Sin City told E! Online. “What are the odds?”

Is the romance back on? Not necessarily. The U.K.'s Daily Mail reported that Britney may have another motive for seeing Adnan again: fear that an intimate tape filmed during their Mexican vacation in January will surface.

“Britney's really scared that Adnan has a sex tape,” an insider told the paper's Web site. “She wants to get it out of his hands.”

Well, if it did get released, at least Britney might get a hit movie to her credit.

Helen gone wild

Distinguished actress Helen Mirren makes some shocking revelations in the new issue of British GQ. Opening up about her teenage days, she confesses to having “loved” cocaine and having been date raped “a couple of times.”

“I loved coke,” declares the star of “The Queen.” “I never did a lot, just a little bit at parties.” She also admits to smoking marijuana, but explains, “Dope always made me feel miserable and paranoid and unhappy. And I woke up one day and thought, 'No more of that, thank you.'” Helen says her drug-addled days ended 20 years ago.

As for the date rape incidents, she says they happened “not with excessive violence, or being hit, but rather being locked in a room and made to have sex against my will.”

But, Helen adds, “I don't think [a woman] can have that man into court under those circumstances. It's such a tricky area, isn't it? Especially if there is no violence.”

Uh, we love Helen, but we have to strongly disagree with her there.

Grant taken?

Has Hugh Grant found a new romance? The bachelor rom-com star was reportedly sighted with fashion designer Catherine Fulmer at a Hamptons party over the weekend. A pal of the 27-year-old blond told the New York Post that they hit the event together after meeting on the beach that day, and that Hugh is going to her first NYC fashion show next week.

At the party Sunday, “they were so cute and flirty,” another attendee told OK! “He got Catherine and several of her friends shots of Milagro tequila to celebrate the night.”

However, the Brit cutie's rep maintained to the tabloid, “Someone's got their wires crossed. They met at a party and Hugh does not know her at all.”

Fine, but it sounds like they might be getting to know each other better.

Politico LiLo

As election season approaches, stars are making their opinions on the presidential race known. One rather unlikely political voice emerged from one Miss Lindsay Lohan — on, natch, MySpace. The actress opted to weigh in on pro-life Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, whose daughter Bristol, 17, is making headlines after the revelation that she is pregnant.

LiLo writes that the scandal is “distracting from the real issues, the real everyday problems that this country experiences.”

She adds, “I get Sarah Palin's views against abortion, but I would much prefer to hear more about what she can do for our country, rather than how her daughter is going to have a child no matter what.”

And we would much prefer not to be lectured on political issues by Lindsay Lohan.
