San Francisco: Places to go, people to see

Matt Darey, a pioneer of today’s dance scene along the lines of DJs like Oakenfold, Tiesto, Armin and Paul Van Dyk, has a new album, “Nocturnal.” It’s the first mix compilation from his quickly expanding international radio show, now broadcasting on more than 100 stations. The two-hour weekly show covers the best new tracks from all genres of dance — progressive, electro, house, trance and more. Darey is coming to town to promote the disc. He’ll appear at 9 p.m. Saturday at Ruby Skye, 420 Mason St., San Francisco, on a bill with DJ Irene.

LOCAL BAND SHOWCASE

KFOG presents its Local Scene Night, an indie-rock show benefiting Music in Schools Today, a group that supports, develops and promotes music education for youth in schools and inthe community. Honeycut, Lotus Rush, Elliot Randall, left, and the J Band perform. The show is Saturday at 7 p.m. at Slim’s, 333 11th St., San Francisco. Tickets are $10 to $15.

FUNNY ON THE SPOT

Rafe Chase and Geri Lawlor, prominent members of the local improv scene, return. After soliciting suggestions from the audience, the pair spontaneously creates comic scenes and an improvised “film.” Shows are at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays through Sept. 7 at the Dark Room Theatre, 2263 Mission St., San Francisco.
