San Francisco: Places to go, people to see

The SF Jazz spring season presents Carlinhos Brown and Ojos de Brujo in concert at 8 p.m. Saturday.

Brown, a musical giant in Brazil, sings, drums, writes and dances, working solo and with his band, Timbalada. He has collaborated with Brazilian heavyweights including Daniela Mercury, Marisa Monte, Sergio Mendes and rockers Sepultura.

Ojos de Brujo is celebrating the release of its acclaimed album “Techarí” on Six Degrees Records. The New York Times has described the group, from Barcelona, Spain, as “a band that loads flamenco rhythm and hip-hop and reggae and punk on the same wagon. It’s lively, fire-spitting music.”

JEWELS IN THE SQUARE

The Little Wheels Band, a West Coast dance band that has been described as “cowboy boots meet retro roots,” appears at 2 p.m. Sunday. The free concert is part of the ongoing Jewels in the Square series at Union Square, Geary and Powell streets, San Francisco, running through June. Admission to all shows is free.

BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY

Works by 11 artists — Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Fanny Renoir and Momo, among them — are on view at “Reckless Perpetuity,” a one-night-only event celebrating San Francisco Bohemia.
