Sara Spearin, the owner and founder of Dynamo Donut, an artisanal doughnut shop at 2760 24th St., is delighted to be collaborating with Project Open Hand. Dynamo recently launched its newest doughnut flavor, combining Project Open Hand’s peanut butter with a banana honey glaze.
Why are you collaborating with Project Open Hand? They got in contact with us and I’m delighted they chose Dynamo Donut. It is our first collaboration and it is a lot of fun. We are helping them promote what they do.
What does Project Open Hand do? They deliver hot meals to people with HIV/AIDS, home-bound, seriously ill patients and seniors.
Why is peanut butter the main ingredient? There was a high demand for it in patients’ meals as it’s high in protein, so Project Open Hand decided to make their own. There is a competition to name the new doughnut as we want to include their name.
How long will this doughnut be available? As long as they provide us with the peanut butter. We have about 25 flavors of doughnuts in the store, but serve about seven to 15 different flavors a day. All doughnuts are handmade from scratch daily.
