Goodbye cannoli cupcakes, hello Fruity Dyno Bites: Reality star Teresa Giudice has entered the slammer.
The “Real Housewives of New Jersey” star, cookbook author and convicted flimflammer checked in to the gray-bar hotel in Danbury, Conn., early Monday. Giudice pleaded guilty last year to hiding assets from bankruptcy creditors and submitting phony loan applications worth $5 million, according to The Associated Press.
Giudice used her final moments of freedom to choke down an egg sandwich at Elmer's Diner and bid farewell to friends over the phone.
“The last thing she said was, basically, 'Tell everybody I'll be fine,'” her lawyer James Leonard said. “She was very positive, very upbeat.”
On the bright side, the Danbury prison has some celebrity cachet, having hosted singer Lauryn Hill (tax evasion), “Queen of Mean” Leona Helmsley (fraud) and Piper Kerman (drug trafficking), with Kerman parlaying the experience into memoir-turned-Netflix-series “Orange is the New Black.”
On the dry, tasteless side, the author of “Fabulicious! Teresa's Italian Family Cookbook” is going to have some trouble with Danbury's commissary, which stocks deli meat and “wild berry” frozen yogurt, according to TMZ.
Giudice should have plenty of time to pen new recipes for prison wine and Oreo casserole. She's serving 15 months, after which her husband, Joe, will serve his 41-month term.
