Nick spills the news: Mariah’s having twins!

Finally, after a seemingly endless string of star splits, some joyful celebrity news!

“I didn’t even tell my wife I was gonna do this,” Nick Cannon — aka Mr. Mariah Carey declared on his radio show. “I’m probably gonna get yelled at for not getting permission. … We are having twins!”

Yep, mom-to-be Mimi is expecting not one, but two babies. “Everything is A-OK!” Nick crowed. “Both babies are healthy and in tip-top shape. The doctors are happy.”

A funny wrinkle in the story: The first people to learn of the happy couple’s double-blessing news were none other than Barack and Michelle Obama! After her performance for a White House Christmas special, the diva chatted up the president and first lady, and “because of the excitement and emotion, she shared,” Nick explained, adding that it will be “an awesome story” to tell the kids one day.

And maybe Malia and Sasha can babysit! Who wouldn’t want to leave their kids with sitters who bring along Secret Service agents?

Ryan’s Hope

And speaking of star splits … A source says Ryan Reynolds tried to make his marriage with Scarlett Johansson work, and that there’s no truth to rumors that a flirtation with Blake Lively was a factor in the breakup.

“They worked together [on the upcoming ‘Green Lantern’ film] and got along really well,” a source tells People magazine. “But there’s not more to it.”

As for the hunky actor’s two-year marriage to Scarlett, “at first it was … let’s fix this,” relays a source. “And then it got to the point where it was just, if it’s not working, it’s not working. He’s an adult, and he finally just said they should stop.”

The source notes that “there’s no drama, there’s no cheating, there’s no nothing. These are just two people who love each other who are not going to be together anymore.”

And though their eight-year age difference hardly raised an eyebrow, the fact that the “Lost in Translation” star is just 26 might have hastened the marriage’s demise: “She’s young, and that played into how she’s able to deal with things.”

Funny, we always thought girls matured faster.

Child Problem

And speaking again of star splits … When news broke that Elizabeth Hurley and her husband had separated — and she was seeing another guy — we couldn’t help but wonder which development happened first. Now comes a report that businessman Arun Nayar was blindsided by the British beauty moving on.

“They had been having marriage problems for some time, but Arun wasn’t prepared to give up so easily,” a source revealed to Us magazine. “Liz, on the other hand, gave up and didn’t tell her husband. Instead she went out and found someone else and then broke the news to him. He is gutted.”

So why were they having problems? “He wanted children so badly,” explains the source. Liz, 45, who has a 7-year-old son named Damian from a previous relationship, “didn’t want to go through the pain of IVF. Liz doesn’t compromise, everything was her way or no way.” (Ever heard of adoption?)

Arun “doesn’t want to lose Damian,” adds the source. “They are so close — he is ‘Daddy’ to Damian. And he’s embarrassed that his marriage fell apart so publicly. He feels Liz intentionally humiliated him.”

And as for her fling with Aussie cricket player Shane Warne, “it’s a rebound. They’ll be over before you know it.”

Is Hugh Grant single?
