Music fans battle cool weather at Outside Lands

The unusually cool weather that has been hovering over The City this summer didn’t do anything to dampen the spirit — or the numbers — of music lovers who flocked to Golden Gate Park for the Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival.

While merchandise booths were typically busy, it was the blankets, knit caps and other warm clothing that were especially flying off the shelves as spectators battled afternoon temperatures in the low 60s and evening marks in the mid-50s. As day turned into night, the longest line could be seen for some of the warming beverages sold by Ritual Coffee Roasters.

“All the warm clothing sold out yesterday,” one salesman said Saturday, declining to give his name. “That’s a fact. What can I say?”

Despite the mostly sunny skies, it will be more of the same today for the third and final day of the festival.

National Weather Service meteorologist Chris Stumpf said an upper-level low- pressure system hanging out off the coast has been the culprit.

“It’s bringing cool air off the ocean,” said Stumpf, adding that the system will remain in place through most of this week.
