Lauryn Hill is going to prison for tax evasion after jilting Uncle Sam for more than a decade.

“I am a child of former slaves who had a system imposed on them,” she told the judge. “I had an economic system imposed on me.”

According to The Huffington Post, the apparent libertarian owes more than $1 million and must serve three months in federal prison as a result. Despite paying $900,000 already and her lawyer’s argument that she was a humanitarian, the U.S. Attorney in New Jersey felt that Hill was defiant and had a “parade of excuses” for not paying.

Not quite, said Hill, who “embraced my right to resist a system intentionally opposing my right to whole and integral survival.”
