Los Angeles County prosecutors say a popular Hawaiian singer has been given a six-year suspended state prison sentence after pleading no contest to sexually molesting two young sisters.
A district attorney spokeswoman says 67-year-old Cecilio Rodriguez of the singing group Cecilio and Kapono was a friend of the girls' parents and stayed at their home during various tours in the 1990s.
Rodriguez pleaded to molesting one sister when she was between seven and eight and molesting the other when she was between eight and nine years old.
The women, now in their 20s, testified tearfully that Rodriguez violated their parents' trust.
Rodriguez must complete a year in jail, a year of sex offender counseling and five years formal probation. If he violates probation, he faces the full six year term.
