Thirty-nine-year-old entrepreneur Adam Greenberg has come up with a way to keep bed bugs from becoming an unwanted vacation souvenir by securing suitcases.
What is BugZip and how does it work?
It’s a zippered vinyl bag, clear and resistant to tears. It goes around your suitcase — you zip everything in one of the bags and bed bugs can’t crawl in. If they can’t crawl in, they can’t come with you.
How did you come up with the idea?
I own a medical-supply company and started selling mattress protectors and, at that time, that was pretty much the only protection there was. It’s like, “Well, I spent six months to get rid of them, but I have to travel again.” That’s when I set off on a mission to try to find a way to prevent bed bugs from spreading back home.
Do you have any personal bed-bug horror stories?
I haven’t had them in my home. I’ve seen them a number of times. … On a brand-new cruise line, traveling with my family, I was checking the room thoroughly — my wife and kids thought I was crazy — sure enough we found four bed bugs. Luckily, I was checking before we unpacked and demanded they move us to a different room.3-Minute InterviewFeaturesPersonalities
