Did Nicole help Katie escape?

We’ve heard plenty of rumors about how Katie Holmes pulled off her surprise split from Tom Cruise — including talk that she used disposable cellphones (how not eco-friendly!) to plot her exit strategy with her lawyers. But our favorite of these tales, true or not, is the bombshell claim by Us magazine that Katie’s confidante and accomplice was none other than Nicole Kidman, Tom’s ex-wife.

“They’ve spoken over the last few weeks,” an insider told the tabloid. “Nicole has been supportive, saying she’s been through it too and to hang in there.”

But evidently the two didn’t just bond all of a sudden over being a former Mrs. Cruise — throughout TomKat’s five-year marriage, the Aussie actress “has been a private friend [to Katie] not many people know about,” said the source.

Well, considering Tom turned her own kids against her, it’s no wonder Nic had to cozy up to their stepmother just to get updates!
Royal Heir?
Queen Latifah has been a rapper, a singer, an actress, a talk-show host, and a makeup maven … and now the multihyphenate has her sights set on being a mommy. Latifah revealed on “The View” that she has planned for years to adopt a tot someday, and is now “actually kind of working on that.”

“I just always wanted to bring a child home,” the “Ice Age 4” star confided.

A rep tells People magazine that there is “nothing new to report” with regard to the adoption ambitions of the artist, whose real name is Dana Owens. But Latifah insisted on the TV talk-fest, “I’m totally serious, so if you got a kid that you don’t … just give me a year — let me set up camp and send me the kid.”

Uh, Latifah? You might want to do a little research on the adoption process, ’cause it doesn’t exactly work that way.
Engagement Conflict
Wait — is Sofia Vergara engaged or isn’t she?

Multiple outlets report that the “Modern Family” star accepted entrepreneur beau Nick Loeb’s proposal Monday while the pair were vacationing in Mexico to celebrate her 40th birthday. According to Page Six,  90 people, including TV co-stars Julie Bowen, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Sarah Hyland, witnessed the proposal and then celebrated with the happy couple afterward.

But despite the fact that she’s sporting the diamond band he proffered — reportedly on bended knee — Sofia is not engaged, her rep maintained to People.

So, we can think of just two explanations for the discrepancy. Either all 90 of those witnesses somehow misinterpreted what they saw and heard … or Sofia just said yes to save face for her beau in front of them, then took it back in private.
