Converse kicks out the cool combo jams with latest ‘I’m a Goner’

OK, let’s just admit it — we all love Converse.

And there’s no outfit — not even a flashy tux — that a cool pair of Chucks won’t jazz up.

But here’s one more reason to love ’em: The company’s ongoing series of commissioned all-star team-ups, which seamlessly blends three artists from disparate genres into one unified, highly addictive track. Like last year’s “All Summer,” which combined the talents of Kid Cudi, Best Coast’s Bethany Cosentino and Vampire Weekend’s Rostam Batmanglij. Or the recent “Desire,” which melded Blur’s Graham Coxon, Paloma Faith and the Coral’s Bill Rider Jones.

Best of all? Converse gives the tracks away as free downloads at www.converse.com/music, no (shoelace) strings attached.

And now comes their craziest grouping yet.

For the brand-new “I’m a Goner,” alt-rock duo Matt & Kim were hired to curate the cut, and they promptly recruited Soulja Boy and the wildest rocker on the planet, Andrew W.K., for sessions that can only be described as surreal.

As Matt & Kim’s Matt Johnson puts it, “We wanted to make a song that people can party to. Soulja Boy and Andrew W.K.’s lyrics and energy bring a whole new element to the song that we couldn’t be more excited about.”

Converse always foots the bill for a video, too — “Goner” will premiere Aug. 21 at 1:30 p.m. EST on “MTV2 Presents: Converse Band Of Ballers.”

Bottom line? You just can’t beat the concept of “Free”!
