New ‘Run, Ed, Run’ website goes live

Mayor Ed Lee says he won’t run, but that hasn’t stopped a progressive group from putting together a slick campaign to convince him to put his name on the ballot in November. The buzz over that drive has been growing since blogger Michael Petrelis spotted two political operatives and photojournalist Luke Thomas staging shots for the campaign outside Rainbow Grocery earlier this month.

The website is now live now, and the mustachioed photos are there for all to see.

Unlike another website urging Lee to run, it would’ve been tough to know who was behind this latest campaign had Petrelis not caught the act on camera. The website says only that it is paid for by a political action committee, Progress for All, and a quick check of the ethics filings reveals only the name of the treasurer, Ceazar Cabreros.

But Petrelis’ eagle-eyed readers quickly pointed out that the political consultants with Thomas were Enrique Pearce and Jen Low of Left Coast Communications. Pearce was behind Matt Gonzalez’ mayoral run and Supervisor Jane Kim’s successful bid last November.

Who’s paying for the website, the consulting and the photography is still a little unclear, but the smart bet is that Chinatown powerbroker Rose Pak and former Mayor Willie Brown have something to do with it. As for Lee, he’s likely to field a whole lot more of the same question in the upcoming weeks.
