Police arrested five suspects shortly after a shooting near a San Francisco high school Sunday night that left a 22-year-old man critically wounded.

The unidentified victim walked into the emergency room of San Francisco General Hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg at about 7:50 p.m., Officer Albie Esparza said. He was rushed to surgery with life-threatening injuries, Esparza said, but as of Monday morning, his condition was unknown.

However, Esparza did confirm that an argument broke out inside a home in the 1300 block of Bowdoin Street, near Phillip and Sala Burton Academic High School, right before the shooting.

When a red vehicle reportedly began driving away from the home, five suspects ran outside and shot at the vehicle. The suspects, all men, ran up the street and fired off more shots, Esparza said.

Police set up a perimeter in the area, and detained all five suspects as well as found a handgun, Esparza said.

No further information about the incident, including the identities of the suspects, was immediately available.
