A gun buy-back event held over the weekend resulted in 113 firearms being taken off the streets.
The event was hosted by SFPD and United Playaz, a violence prevention program that works with youth. The event took place at United Playaz’ headquarters, at 1038 Howard St. in SoMa.
Those who owned guns they wanted to get rid of were able to drop them off with no questions asked. The event netted 32 rifles, 30 pistols 23 shotguns, 19 semi-automatics, six assault weapons, two BB rifles, and one reported stolen rifle.
Those dropping off handguns would receive $100, and those with assault weapons could get $200.
“Help make SF homes and streets safer, no questions asked,” was the SFPD tagline for the event.
