Warriors shuffle roster: In with Briante, out with Andy V

Leaving as he came, Anderson Varejao was waived by the Golden State Warriors, the team announced Friday.

Varejao played his third-most minutes (8) of the season on Thursday, he returned 0 points, two rebounds and three personal fouls. In 36 regular-season games with the Dubs, Varejao averaged 2.1 points and 2.1 rebounds per game.

But it will always be for his performance in Game 7 of the NBA Finals for which fans will remember him. Playing against the team that traded him, the Cleveland Cavaliers, Varejao scored one point, grabbed one rebound, committed three fouls and left the floor for a minus-9 across eight-plus minutes.

The Warriors brought him back this offseason on a veteran’s minimum contract. With JaVale McGee solidifying a role for himself, the team’s frontcourt rotation was too crowded to continue carrying Varejao on a full roster.

Taking Varejao’s spot is Briante Weber, who the Warriors signed to a 10-day contract on Friday, according to The Vertical.

Weber, considered the top D-League prospect, confirmed the move on Twitter. He last played for the Sioux Falls Skyforce. He’s averaged 16.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 7.4 assists in 31 games this season. He’s known as a defensive specialist and is leading the developmental league with 3.3 steals per game.

He’ll get a chance to prove his value to the organization while veteran guard Shaun Livingston nurses a back ailment that’s kept him out of the last two games.

To say goodbye to Varejao, we should remember the good times. Like when he first got to the Bay:

Or when he channeled Stephen Curry around the rim:

But, nothing can top the tweet Warriors social media guru Julie Phayer sent during Varejao’s second game with the team:

And to welcome in the new, here’s Weber doing something a 6-2 guard usually can’t:
