Triple-digit heat will return to the Bay Area this weekend, but San Francisco will likely be spared from such hot weather, according to the National Weather Service.

While still cool on Thursday, San Francisco will warm up to low- or mid-70s on Saturday and Sunday, said Will Pi, a meteorologist with the weather service. The temperature is expected to drop by Monday or Tuesday.

Outside of The City, the heat will get more severe, Pi said.

In some Bay Area locations, including Fairfield, Stockton and Merced, the maximum temperature will reach the low-100s, weather officials said.

In addition to the day heat, overnight temperatures will provide little relief, weather officials said. Cooler temperatures will return early next week.
