Visitacion Valley shooting victim dies from injuries

A 27-year-old man died Tuesday night from gunshot wounds he sustained in Visitacion Valley last week on the same day and block where the man beaten by Alameda County sheriff’s deputies was arrested, according to police.

The unidentified man was shot several times in the upper body in the unit block of Teddy Avenue Friday around 1:49 a.m., police said.

Officer Carlos Manfredi, a spokesperson for the San Francisco Police Department, confirmed the man’s death but did not know if the homicide was connected to the arrest of Stanislav Petrov, the man beaten by deputies.

Manfredi said that the homicide unit has not released any suspect information in the killing.

The Medical Examiner’s Office was not immediately available to confirm or release the identity of the victim.

Petrov was arrested Friday afternoon when the FBI and SFPD served a search warrant at the house on Teddy Avenue. The FBI has said his arrest was not related to the shooting.

Petrov was booked into County Jail on suspicion of drug and firearms related charges, according to the Sheriff’s Department. However, it’s unknown what he has been charged with.

Petrov appeared in federal court Wednesday morning but the courtroom — and criminal complaint against him — remains sealed to the public.
