Rape reported at SF State dormitory

A person was reportedly raped at a San Francisco State University dormitory over the weekend, university police said.

The victim, who was incapable of consent for unclear reasons, was sexually assaulted at Mary Ward Hall on Saturday around 3 a.m., the University Police Department said.

The victim reported the incident to police about three hours later. It’s unclear if police have a suspect in the case.

Jonathan Morales, a spokesperson for the university, declined to provide any further information about the University Police Department’s “high-priority” investigation into the incident. “We need to preserve the privacy of the victim,” he said.

Mary Ward Hall is on-campus housing for first-time freshman and consists of shared dorm rooms and restrooms.

The university’s most recent crime statistics show that four rapes were reported at residence halls on campus in 2013, while five were reported the following year. One sexual battery incident was also reported at residence communities on campus in both 2013 and 2014. Two more sexual batteries were reported on campus in 2014 outside of residence halls.
