Military applicants will soon have a new USO facility in the Bay Area to enjoy while undergoing the process of enlisting.

USO Bay Area today is set to celebrate the opening of its center at the San Jose Military Entrance Processing Station, which officially began serving military applicants and their families on Aug. 1 and has since served more than 400 people each week.

The USO center marks the first at a Military Entrance Processing Station in California.

“Opening the first USO MEPS center in California is a significant achievement for USO, MEPS and the Bay Area,” Monique August, USO Bay Area Center Director, said in a statement. “Our collaboration is a representation of how individuals as well as public and private entities can rally together as a community to support the brave men, women and families that serve our country.”

The San Jose Military Entrance Processing Station is located at 546 Vernon Ave. in Mountain View.
The USO center will allow volunteers to serve service members from the moment they enlist by providing the comforts of home, in an effort to ease the military screening process.

“We are excited to be able to provide a place for applicants and their families to connect and relax as they embark on a new journey to protect and serve our nation,” August said. “Our partnership with San Jose MEPS has made it possible for USO Bay Area to support thousands of service members from the moment they start their military career.”
