PALO ALTO — The third time was not the charm for Menlo-Atherton, as it fell in the Northern California Division I girls’ volleyball championship against defending champion Palo Alto 25-17, 25-8, 25-15 on Tuesday.
“We knew it was going to be a challenge,” M-A coach Jennifer Wilson said. “We had people playing positions they hadn’t played all season and that’s going to be tough for anyone going into that situation.”
It was M-A’s first trip to the NorCal title game after the Bears clinched their first Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division title since 2002.

City College of San Francisco did not need long to stamp its ticket to the state championship game as it used 29 first-quarter points to cruise to the 57-13 victory over Fresno City College in the San Francisco Hawaiian Punch Bowl on Saturday.
The win gives No. 1 CCSF (11-0) its second consecutive Northern California Football Association championship and its 12th overall and sets up a rematch against Mt. San Antonio College for the state championship.

The Scots (25-9) make their third consecutive trip to the Central Coast Section Division I semifinals Thursday despite having a new coach and an essentially new roster.
“We talked about how we’ve accomplished everything that anybody could have reasonably expected,” first-year coach Chris Crader said.
“They’re excited to be here again. They’re excited to get another shot at [Menlo-Atherton].”
