SF Jazz announces summer fest lineup

As is typical, the lineup for the 31st annual San Francisco Jazz Festival is expansive and fun. Announced by SFJazz officials last week, the festival runs June 12-23, with most concerts in the new SFJazz Center at 201 Franklin St. The opening concert June 12 will present the Stefano Bollani Trio, featuring the acclaimed Italian pianist. Latin jazz highlights include singer-songwriter-guitarist Milton Nascimento on June 13-14, percussionist Pedrito Martinez on June 16 and the Bay Area’s Pacific Mambo Orchestra on June 15. Read More

7-year-old, grandmother struck by trash truck in SF

A 7-year-old girl who was struck by a garbage truck Wednesday morning along The Embarcadero suffered a serious foot injury, according to police. The girl and her 66-year-old grandmother were hit about 7:30 a.m. at Broadway and The Embarcadero, police Officer Albie Esparza said. The grandmother suffered abrasions and scrapes to her leg, police said. The driver of the Recology truck involved in the accident stopped at the scene and cooperated with the police investigation, Officer Gordon Shyy said. Read More

PHOENIX — The A’s placed infielder Adam Rosales on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with a strained muscle on the left side of his ribcage. He will miss the early portion of the season for the defending AL West champions, who open the year Monday at home against Felix Hernandez and the Seattle Mariners. Rosales got hurt in Monday’s victory against the Milwaukee Brewers at Phoenix Muni Stadium. He was batting .324 with three home runs and nine RBIs in 21 spring games and also had eight walks for a .468 on-base percentage. Read More
