Redwood City police have arrested two people believed to have taken part in beating Tuesday afternoon in which a teenager was hit in the head with a rock.At about 3:35 p.m. Tuesday, officers responded to the intersection of Howland and Warren streets, where witnesses told police that three to five males in their teens or early 20s had attacked an 18-year-old man.Arriving officers found the victim with serious head injuries and facial lacerations, police said.He was taken to a hospital and was expected to survive, police said.

A San Bruno man accused of fatally striking a pedestrian in Pacifica on Sunday pleaded not guilty Tuesday afternoon to charges that include driving under the influence, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office.
Leopoldo Tobilla, 57, was arrested after he allegedly drove up to police at Sharp Park Road and Skyline Boulevard and admitted to hitting someone walking in the roadway, police said.
Pacifica police and the California Highway Patrol were conducting an investigation in the area after Scott Garrigan was found dead near the road at about 1:35 a.m.

U.S. Highway 1 has been shut down in both directions tonight following a potentially fatal crash in Pescadero in unincorporated San Mateo County, a California Highway Patrol officer said.The coroner was en route at about 7:10 p.m. to the scene of the two-vehicle crash in response to one possible fatality, Officer Ralph Caggiano said.The crash was reported at about 6:50 p.m. at Rossi Road.According to early reports, two other vehicle occupants suffered major injuries and three suffered moderate injuries, Caggiano said.

All lanes on the Dumbarton Bridge have reopened following a fiery crash that involved a big-rig Tuesday morning, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.The big-rig crashed into a stalled sedan and caught fire in the eastbound lanes of the bridge at about 11:05 a.m., CHP Officer Rachaude Crawford said.No one was seriously hurt in the crash, but the driver of the big-rig may have suffered minor injuries, Menlo Park Fire Chief Harold Schapelhouman said. The U.S. Geological Survey is reporting an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 2.4 struck this afternoon in Sonoma County.The quake shook an area near the Geysers at 4:44 p.m. and had a depth of 1.7 miles, according to the USGS. The tremor was centered three miles north-northeast of the Geysers.The Geysers is the largest single geothermal field in the world, according to the U.S. Department of Energy, and experiences constant seismic events between 0.5 and 3.0 on the Richter scale.

A man was shot in the leg in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood on Sunday night, a police spokesman said.Police received reports of gunfire in the 400 block of Ellis Street, near Jones Street, at about 8:30 p.m., Officer Albie Esparza said Monday.Responding officers found a 50-year-old man who had been shot once in the leg, Esparza said. That injury was not considered life-threatening.Esparza said the victim refused to cooperate with authorities, and police do not have a suspect description.
