Firefighters rescued five dogs from a burning house in San Jose on Sunday evening, a dispatcher said.
Crews responded to reports of smoke coming from the side of a single-family home on the 2300 block of Carlton Avenue, dispatcher Brenda Jaime said.
Arriving firefighters put out the fire by about 8 p.m., Jaime said.
No injuries were reported, but five dogs were rescued from the garage of the home. The dogs were turned over to the local Animal Care and Control.
No damage estimate was immediately available and the fire is still under investigation.

A newly constructed nesting place for owls may bring hundreds of new birds near a home in Santa Clara County, where a clutch of owl eggs was rescued from harm's way on Friday.
About a week ago, workers were installing a new roof on an old two-story house in the unincorporated town of San Martin when they noticed a large bird fly from an alcove, according to WildRescue, a Monterey-based group that helps animals in precarious situations.
On closer inspection, crews found the small white round eggs of a barn owl, said Rebecca Dmytryk, the organization's founder.

The FBI is seeking the public's assistance in identifying a man suspected of withdrawing money from bank accounts throughout the Bay Area.He is wanted for a series of crimes that began in April 2009, according to the FBI.The man was last seen in early March 2010, FBI officials said. Surveillance photos depict him entering several then-Wachovia branches in San Francisco, South San Francisco and San Mateo, where he impersonated the victims and then withdrew money from their accounts, FBI officials said.

Two women were stabbed during a fight outside of a club in San Francisco's Mission district early Saturday morning, a police spokesman said.
Police responded shortly after midnight to reports of a fight among a group of people in front of El Rincon, at 16th Street and Treat Avenue, Officer Eric Chiang said.
When police arrived, they discovered two women in their 20s suffering from minor injuries and stab wounds.
Police arrested a woman identified as Britney Strother on suspicion of assault, Chiang said.
