Flights between Japan and San Francisco International Airport were canceled or rerouted Friday morning after an 8.9-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of northeast Japan on Thursday night.United Airlines Flight 837 and All Nippon Airways Flight NH7 were en route to Tokyo-Narita International Airport from San Francisco when the earthquake struck and were rerouted to Yokota Air Force Base and Nagoya Airport, respectively, airport spokesman Michael McCarron said in a statement. Teen girl helps Albany police find man suspected of attempting to lure girls

A teenage girl helped Albany police locate a Richmond man suspected of attempting to lure girls into his truck, police officials said.Gilberto Moreno, 36, was arrested Saturday evening after he allegedly tried to lure a 16-year-old into his truck earlier that day, police said.The girl had allegedly been approached by Moreno the year before and recognized him and his truck immediately, police said.The girl was approached at around 5:20 p.m. and she quickly reported the incident to police, which led to Moreno’s arrest at around 7:30 p.m., police said. Oakland police investigating Wednesday night fatal shooting

A man was fatally shot in Oakland on Wednesday night during what may have been a robbery, police said.Police responded to the 1400 block of Sixth Avenue near International Boulevard around 8 p.m., Officer Kroushour said.The victim died at a local hospital and no suspect was identified as of 6 a.m., Kroushour said. A fatal crash involving a motorcyclist on northbound U.S. Highway 101 in San Mateo has been cleared and lanes have reopened, a California Highway Patrol officer said.The crash was reported at 5:12 a.m. just south of Dore Avenue. One motorist is confirmed dead in a motorcycle crash on northbound U.S. Highway 101 near Third Avenue in San Mateo, a California Highway Patrol officer said.The CHP closed down lanes one, two and three of northbound Highway 101 due to the crash, which may involve another car, Officer Kevin Bartlett said.It was not immediately known if there were any other injuries, he said.The CHP issued a SIG alert at 5:30 a.m. and said the lanes will not reopen until 7:30 a.m. at the earliest, Bartlett said.   Read More
