Organizers of a bid to have the 49ers host Super Bowl L in 2016 announced Monday that they have already raised more than $30 million for the event and will contribute a quarter of that total to local charities.
Members of the Bay Area Super Bowl Bid Committee made the announcement as they prepare to make a presentation to the 32 NFL owners at a meeting in Boston on May 21. The committee last week submitted its bid to the owners to have the Super Bowl at the 49ers’ new $1.2 billion stadium in Santa Clara in 2016.

The nursing community has set up a fund to help the families of five women who were killed in a fiery crash on the San Mateo Bridge this month as they headed to a bridal party in Foster City.
The California Nurses Association and National Nurses United have established the CNA Nursing Angels Family Fund to which anyone can make a donation to benefit the families of the women who died while celebrating the marriage of Neriza Fojas, 31, of Monterey.
The former Bay Area resident was a nurse at the Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno.

When contract talks continue this week between AT&T Park workers and the company that manages the concessions at the ballpark, it will be under the cloud of a threatened strike approved over the weekend.
The concession workers, who are represented by the union Unite Here Local 2, have said they had not had raises in several years. They said the management company Centerplate is seeking to cap health care benefits and is offering a 25-cent-an-hour raise this year and another 25 cents an hour next year.

A funeral service is scheduled for Tuesday for Nadia Holober, the Millbrae vice mayor who passed away last week from cancer.
Holober worked for the city for 14 years after she moved with her family to Millbrae in 1991.
She was first elected to the City Council in 1999 and served as mayor in 2003 and 2004. She was elected to her third term on the council in 2009, after which she worked her second term as vice mayor. She was working up until her death, city officials said.
She is survived by her husband, Richard, and her sons, Ruben and Evan.

Police are asking for the public’s help in locating a suspect who beat and seriously injured a driver after a car crash in Pacifica last month.
Police said officers responded to reports of the assault at the Fairmont Shopping Center, off of Hickey Boulevard, around 11:55 p.m. on April 27.
The victim and suspect had been involved in a car crash on southbound state Highway 35 near Hickey Boulevard prior to the assault, according to police.

A large sinkhole that appeared Monday in the Presidio Heights neighborhood will likely take the rest of the week to repair, a spokesman for the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission said Tuesday.
The sinkhole, which is about 20 feet in diameter and 10 feet deep, was reported about 5 p.m. Monday at Lake Street and Second Avenue, SFPUC spokesman Tyrone Jue said.
Investigators believe the sinkhole occurred when a 19-inch brick sewer line below the roadway ruptured, Jue said. Crews estimate that the line is at least 100 years old, he said.

The California Supreme Court ruled unanimously Monday that cities and counties have the right to ban medical marijuana dispensaries within their borders, despite the existence of a state law that protects patients who use the drug.
The court said the scope of the voter-approved Compassionate Use Act of 1996, or Proposition 215, and a related 2003 state law is “limited and circumscribed” and does not prevent local governments from prohibiting marijuana dispensaries.

Police said they are searching for a woman who stabbed her roommate about 4:15 a.m. Sunday in the first block of Towerside Avenue in Visitacion Valley.
When officers arrived, they reportedly found a woman suffering from a stab wound. She was taken to a hospital for treatment and is expected to survive, according to police.
The suspect, who’s also a woman and the victim’s roommate, fled the scene and remained at large Sunday, police said.

Six people were shot and injured about 2:45 p.m. Sunday near a McDonald’s on University Avenue in East Palo Alto, according to a fire official.
Firefighters arriving on the scene reportedly found six people with gunshot wounds, four inside the restaurant and two outside, but it is unclear where they were shot.
One person, a man in his 20s, received more serious injuries and was taken to Stanford Medical Center for treatment.

A San Francisco woman who was reported missing in February was found dead in Pacifica last weekend, San Bruno police said Friday.
Cecilia Zamora, 36, was reported missing to San Francisco police on Feb. 15. Relatives said she was possibly heading to her cousin's home in San Bruno after she had last been seen at a home in the 300 block of Colby Street in San Francisco on Feb. 9 at 7:30 p.m.
She was last heard from on Feb. 12.

A van went off a cliff and crashed into a building on San Francisco's Twin Peaks on Friday morning, according to a fire department official.

The van went off Twin Peaks Boulevard and crashed into a building at 2 Clarendon Ave. around 10:20 a.m., according to fire spokeswoman Mindy Talmadge.
One person was transported to a hospital by ambulance after the crash with injuries that are not considered life-threatening, Talmadge said.

The Department of Public Health is encouraging gay men to get regular HIV and STD testing by offering them coupons to businesses in the Castro district.
The six-month Get a Test, Get a Discount program runs through the end of October, according to health officials.
Men who come into one of six participating community-based organizations for an HIV or STD test will receive a coupon to be redeemed at a neighborhood store, restaurant or coffee shop.

Four men were rescued from a boat that was burning off of Candlestick Point Saturday morning, a San Francisco Fire Department lieutenant said.
The U.S. Coast Guard, police and fire officials responded at about 9:55 a.m. on a report that four men were on a burning boat that was about a half mile out in San Francisco Bay from Candlestick Point, fire department Lt. Robert Lopez said.

San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee was in Baltimore on Friday to settle a bet he made with the city's mayor on the outcome of the Super Bowl game between the 49ers and Ravens in February.
