United Airlines seeking to add flights from SFO to Japan

UNITED AIRLINESUAL Corp. applied with federal regulators to begin nonstop flights of Boeing 777 jumbo jets between San Francisco and Tokyo’s Haneda Airport. Four more daily routes are being allowed at the smaller Haneda Airport, which is close to downtown Tokyo, making the flights attractive to business fliers. Yee to be honored for work against human trafficking

State Sen. Leland Yee, who represents San Francisco and San Mateo, will be honored with the Modern Day Abolitionist Award by the San Francisco Collaborative Against Human Trafficking. Yee has authored legislation that would allow courts to seize any property, including homes and autos, used in the commission of human trafficking. $2.3B in federal high-speed funds on way

Since his health care reform seems doomed, President Barack Obama is turning his attention to national transportation -- and California's high-speed rail project is one of the beneficiaries. Obama will announce today that 13 rail corridors in 31 states are recipients of $8 billion in grants from the White House. Of that total, California will get $2.3 billion for the 800-mile project that will connect Sacramento to San Francisco to Los Angeles.The only current high-speed rail line in the nation is Amtrak's Acela line between Boston and Washington, D.C. Bay Area relief corps not going to Haiti

Plans to send local firefighters and support staff to Haiti to help with rescue efforts and salvage the dead in the wake of a strong 7.0-magnitude earthquake were abandoned. Harold Schapelhouman, the chief of the Menlo Park Fire District, which sponsors a team of San Francisco and Peninsula fire agencies named Task Force 3, said the 70-person mission to Haiti was canceled along with other U.S. endeavors. New 311 resource for SROs to be unveiled

On Tuesday, Supervisor David Campos will join Board of Supervisors President David Chiu and a group of low-income housing residents to launch the newly expanded 311 service for single-room-occupancy units.
