Soccer players become hooligans

The soccer players were apparently the hooligans, not the fans, during an attack Saturday at Youngblood Coleman Park in the Bayview. A 19-year-old man told police he was jumped from behind by four soccer players after watching a game about 9:45 a.m. Police responded to the area of Mendell Street and Galvez Avenue, where the victim stopped at a taco truck after the match. Meth conviction for Rodent King

The Rodent King will remain caged for a bit longer. Robert Hollywood, 55 – the man who made headlines in 2004 following his arrest for keeping hundreds of rats and mice, dozens of them dead, in his Menlo Park home – was sentenced Friday to 16 months in County Jail after pleading no contest to  felony possession of methamphetamine. As part of his sentence, he received 181 days credit for time served, according to prosecutors. Read More

Crooked gardeners' plot soiled by police

These gardeners allegedly tried to rake in more than weeds. Two men accused of breaking from their gardening job in order to burglarize a neighbor’s home on Placitas Avenue in North Fair Oaks last month pleaded not guilty to the charges Friday, according to prosecutors. Victor Oseguera-Rojas, 21, and Ruben Rojas Salas, 24, were allegedly caught hauling bags filled with stolen loot, including two laptop computers, by the mother of the home’s resident on the afternoon of April 11. Man in court for allegedly impregnating 12-year-old daughter

The attorney for a Redwood City man accused of impregnating his 12-year-old daughter was granted more time Monday to mull whether to go to trial. In December of 2007, according to prosecutors, 40-year-old Manuel Jacinto brought his daughter to San Mateo Medical Center for an abortion. The hospital called police, and officers were told by both Jacinto and his daughter that a 12-year-old boy named Giovanni was the father, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said. Grand theft? Hotel room mini-bar cleaned out

Forget top shelf. This boozehound wanted the really expensive stuff. A man was arrested on charges that he entered the Westin St. Francis hotel in Union Square on Thursday, swiped a room key from a cleaning cart and then cleaned out the mini-bar  of an unoccupied room. Caught teen escapee needed food, clothes

A 16-year-old boy who escaped from San Francisco’s juvenile detention center last month is in custody after he reportedly returned home for food, rest and clothes. The teenager, who broke out of the Juvenile Justice Center on Woodside Avenue along with a 12-year-old boy on April 16, was detained Thursday at his parents’ home, Chief Probation Officer William Siffermann said. The judge's gavel was mightier than this tool. A man who beat his wife with a hammer in front of their son in South San Francisco three years ago – and attacked her again after bailing out of jail  – was sentenced Thursday to 36 years to life in prison. Raymon McCowan, 49, of American Canyon, was seen by employees of La Quinta Inn in South City striking his wife of 19 years in the hotel parking lot on Feb. 8, 2010. Read More

Polk Gulch merchant robbed while opening business

A woman was robbed at gunpoint while opening a Polk Gulch business Thursday morning, police said. The thug, described as a man in his 20s, reportedly pulled out a handgun and held it to the 34-year-old merchant’s head in the 600 block of Eddy Street, between Polk and Larkin streets, at about 9 a.m. The robber demanded that the merchant open the door and unlock the safe, police said, and the she complied. While the suspect reached in for the cash, the merchant fled and screamed for help. Read More

Muni tablet robber nabbed

A 28-year-old woman using a tablet on a Muni bus during Wednesday morning's commute was pushed by a teenager who then robbed her device, police said, but the suspect was caught after a foot chase with a cop. The robbery reportedly occurred on the 44 O’Shaughnessy line in the area of Seventh and Clarendon avenues at about 7:15 a.m. An officer responded before the suspect, a 17-year-old boy, could get away, police said. The tablet was recovered. The teenager is not being identified because he is a minor. The woman was not injured, police said. Read More

SF caregiver robs double amputee

This suspect was really a care "taker." A Daly City bank manager received praise from police for turning in a heartless caregiver earlier this month who allegedly stole money from a client -- a double amputee who uses a motorized wheelchair. About 1 p.m. May 1, police said, officers responded to the Wells Fargo Bank inside of the Safeway at the Westlake Shopping Center on the fraud report. Read More

Every little thing has not been all right for this Rastafarian. Robert Joseph Simmons, 33, believes he doesn’t need a medical card to possess marijuana because buds are a “core tenet” of his religion. At least, that was the Belmont resident’s claim after he was busted in April 2011 with more than 2½ pounds of pot and 13 pills of hydromorphine, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said. Second shooting in Sunnydale in as many days

A vehicle carrying three people, including a 71-year-old man, was hit by a bullet in the Sunnydale neighborhood on Tuesday, the second shooting in the area in as many days. The victims, two men ages 50 and 71 and a 36-year-old woman, were driving eastbound in the 100 block of Blythedale Avenue, near Santos Street, when they saw two men in their 20s running toward them at about 6:30 p.m., police said. Remorseless Tyler Hutchinson shocks judge

A callous killer has shocked a judge with his lack of remorse. "He's dead. Everybody dies," 25-year-old Tyler Hutchinson said about his victim, 88-year-old Albert Korn, according to San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe. Hutchinson added, "I'm gonna die. You're gonna die. I don't care," Wagstaffe said. The statement helped increase Hutchinson's sentence Tuesday to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Read More
